Day 4 — November is National Blog-Posting Month. No themes. No rules. No word count. No Lewis Carroll today.
I had said in October that more breathtaking colorization was to follow and here it is today. Recall Brigadier General David McMurtrie Gregg sat with his senior staff, possibly near Fredericksburg, Virginia. He led a couple of Pennsylvania brigades in the Battle of Gettysburg.
Here we have Lewis Thornton Powell. He attempted to assassinate U.S. Secretary of State William H. Seward. Powell was one of four traitors hanged for the Lincoln assassination conspiracy. He was from Alabama and the only conspirator executed from the Deep South. I guess he wasn’t a Confederate.
NOTE: It’s almost hard to believe this is a Civil War era photo. Powell looks like a 21st-century hipster.
